What Can Wide Format Printing Do?
With state-of-the-art wide-format digital printing, we have the capability to print photographic quality on sizes up to 80 x 120 inches, both on materials as thin as paper and substrates up to two inches thick. Our wide format printers are used to print store graphics, banners, posters, trade show graphics, wallpaper, murals, vehicle wraps, and any other large-format artwork or signage. More economical than other print methods such as screen printing, many wide format printers employ inkjet technology and print onto a roll of media that is fed into the machine, rather than onto individual sheets.
Various ink transfer processes characterize wide format printing and its related applications.
Aqueous: Pigment is typically held in a non-reactive carrier solution; often (but not always) water. Similar in general principle to desktop inkjet printers, aqueous wide-format printing may be applied to various substrates, including canvases, paper products and polymer-based media.
Solvent: Any ink that is not water-based is referred to as solvent-based. Carrier solvents may include various petroleum products or glycol esters. The resulting prints are waterproof, and can be applied directly to uncoated vinyl, metal or foam board. The solvents often chemically etch themselves into the surface of the print media, creating a durable and permanent application. Recently, developments in eco-friendly solvent-based inks have reduced toxicity of the application process and are quickly becoming prevalent in the commercial printing industry.
Dye Sublimation: In this process, inks are diffused into materials such as a plastic, card stock, paper, or fabric using heat.
UV: Certain inks are UV-curable, meaning they dry when cured with UV light. This results in vibrant, waterproof prints suitable for outdoor use. Polymer-based media is usually best for this type of printing, although other materials can also be used.
